We are expected to get a serious snow storm this weekend in south central PA. It has been a while since we have had a major snow storm so we put together a checklist of things you should have on hand to make it through the storm.

Water & Food

It’s not just about bread and water. You should have at least three days worth of food and water. Canned goods work best in case of an electrical outage. Don’t forget food for pets, as well as ice packs and coolers to keep meals from spoiling.

First Aid Kit

A kit for your home and car is the smartest move, in case of a serious emergency where you need to leave your house. Over the counter and prescription medicines are necessary too, as many local businesses close during inclement weather.

Flashlights

Candles are usually not the best option to light up a house with no electricity. Flashlights are the safest bet, as there is no fire hazard involved. Stock up on batteries, just in case electricity is out for an extended period of time.

Shovels and Rock Salt

This one might be a given but you should most definitely have shovels and rock salt on hand for after the storm. If you don’t own a snow blower, you are going to want a shovel on hand. After shoveling is complete, it’s a good idea to have rock salt to lay down to keep from falling in area’s that you walk on.

Electronic Chargers

These days, people rely more on cell phones than regular home phones. Make sure all of your cell phones are fully charge in case of an emergency. And to stay entertained, charge laptops before the storm so you can watch movies and complain about being trapped in your home on social media.

That’s our list of essential tools to survive the upcoming snow storm! With large amounts of snow on the way, there could be potential flooding and other hazards on the way as well in the next few days/week. If you find yourself in need of an emergency restoration company for any flooding, roof damage, downed trees, etc… consider giving ASJ a call and we will be there to assist you as soon as possible.
